FAQS

For consigners

  • Use our Booking & Pricing page to select your space and services from available options.

  • We currently have a one-week minimum and three-week maximum booking period. We recommend booking at least two weeks to maximize sales. If you’re a boutique owner interested in a longer-term residency, please reach out about pricing.

  • Absolutely. Share with a friend. Your pickleball partner. Your sister. The school PTA. You get the idea.

  • We can only accept high quality fashion pieces and brands. We specialize in women’s and women-aligned apparel; and welcome vintage, designer, timeless, and beloved modern styles. All items must be in good saleable condition, cleaned, and steamed or ironed at time of delivery.

  • We recommend pricing thoughtfully. If you are unsure, 1/3 of what you paid retail is a general guide. Need more help? We offer pricing services as part of our White Glove package.

  • You may set up a discount date at time of booking or discount your entire rack at any point during your rental period. Any discount must be applied to entire rack. Your commission will reflect the final sale price for each garment.

  • Full racks include 36” rack space and at least 28” shelf space. Small racks include 15” rack space and 28” shelf space.

  • We love repeat consigners! If you are interested in extending your rental, simply choose from available options from our booking page.

  • To protect your inventory, we provide security measures including:

Complimentary security tags for any of your items

Safety system including security towers at each entrance

Locked luxury cases for shoes, bags, and accessories (based on availability)

    Camera and alarm systems

  • You may keep a small backstock of items in the store (10 items/full rack, five items/small rack) and we’ll replenish your inventory as pieces sell. Additionally, you are welcome to visit us in-store and refill your collection at your discretion during your rental period.

  • When you get set up as a consigner, you will receive access to your consigner portal. We will provide detailed information at that time, but you may review your sales with one click at any time during your booking window.

  • You may select either Venmo or check. You will be paid on the Wednesday following the close of your rental period. When you pick up your unsold items we will provide a detailed sales report for your tax records.

  • We have lots of helpful hints and are available to answer any questions. Some of our most useful suggestions are:

Sell items that match the season. Spring/Summer in March – August, Winter/Fall in September – February.

Ensure items are in good, saleable condition. All pieces should be cleaned and steamed or ironed before delivery. Wrinkled or dirty clothes cannot be accepted.

Feature styles that are timeless or on-trend and/or made by popular brands. Out-of-date brands or styles are less likely to sell.

Select items valued at more than $15. You will make the most out of your rack rental by selling higher ticket items.

As we can’t 100% ensure the security of items (though we have numerous precautions in place), we recommend not bringing anything sentimental or extremely valuable unless we can accommodate on a locked rack or case.

Promote your rack! The more people who know that you are consigning, the more sales you will make. We offer our daylight studio free of charge to photograph your items and capture content. Post your goods and rack number, tag @shopfortyelephants on Instagram, and we will do our part to get the word out.

  • You may include branded tags promoting your brand or business, but they will accompany our provided store tags, which will have your merchandise bar codes and relevant sales information.

  • Unfortunately, like any retail store, items are sometimes lost, stolen, or damaged. We do our very best to prevent these situations by outfitting the store with safety cameras, security towers, store alarm systems, and complimentary security tags available for all items. Luxury items may be secured in our locked display cases or on our locked rack (as space permits). Forty Elephants takes no responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

  • We proudly support the mission of the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition through their resale boutique, ReFresh. At the close of your rental period, you may choose to donate any/all of your unsold items to ReFresh. We will ensure that your items are delivered directly to them and will provide you with a 501(c)(3) tax donation receipt.
